Like many things, the first step in the journey is the one necessary to get us moving along a journey that often takes a road of its own. So here is the very first blog associated with The Forum, Amanda Mitchell Counselling.

Choices the ones we make or not.

When we question our choices , “should I”? “did I”? and wonder if the choice was the right one; and really there are no answers just questions to that one. At the time we make a choice after evaluating the options (or not), maybe the outcome works for us and maybe not however the result can be we mentally churn within ourselves regarding the outcome and create all manner of physical and emotional stress.

For someone regarded as a maverick, maybe by immediate circle or family and friends as someone with unconventional ideas, perhaps that places us in a different arena to the one they share.

An example could be Leonardo Da Vinci albeit from another time however his inventions and visions may well have placed him in the eyes of the society of that time as a very strange minded individual. How would that play out in his mind or those close to him that ideas whilst not of the world at that time were very real to him.

Did he have a choice in how he viewed the world any more than the rest of us?

For Leonardo, his view of helicopters and inventions may well have been how society at that time viewed the way we look today as someone such as say Elon Musk’s inventions and foresight. However today we take such visionaries as those to be watched, listened to and followed. What must it be like to be such a savant, to be one who has a vision and yet may be potentially alienated from the norm that society expects at that time in their lives. What do we dare to allow into our world that is so very out there compared to the view we think is expected of us?
In the words of Rory Charles Graham known as Rag’n’Bone Man from his song Human*
“ …Some people got the real problems
Some people out of luck
Some people think I can solve them
Lord heavens above
I’m only human after all
I’m only human after all
Don’t put the blame on me
Don’t put the blame on me”

Perhaps we blame ourselves for everything, the relationship, the lack of relationship, what is happening in our world that we have some or no control over. Maybe the lesson in the song is to lighten up on ourselves and others, thanks Rag n Bone man for the current day and timely reminder.

*Human is a song by British singer and songwriter Rag’n’Bone Man. The song was co-written by Rag’n’Bone Man, Jamie Hartman and produced by Two Inch Punch. It was released as a digital download on 21 July 2016, through Sony Music.
